Day 19: Ellenbrae to Home Valley

Ok, a short blog for a short day. Jen did all the driving for the short, mostly uneventful run to Home Valley Station with a short stop at a lookout as we left the Cockburn ranges where we could get Telstra for the first time in days… cleared the backlog of texts and missed calls, and move on.

Home Valley is now run by an Indigenous Land Corporation and part of its role is to provide training opportunities for Indigenous youngsters, as well as a fabulous spot to catch Barramundi (maybe next time). On first impressions it’s doing well. It appears that the youngsters are incorporated across the frontline of at least the hospitality side of the business and  get active mentoring from experienced staff brought in for that role. On paper the facilities are top notch (look them up. It’s easier than me trying to remember and list them!), so it’s a shame the execution lets them down enough for Drysdale to remain as my favourite Station so far.

This afternoon was a gentle walk to Bald Hill, then to the pub to catch up on our blogging with a cold beer before dinner.

Cockburn ranges from Mount Baldy

Huge set of gates for Home Valley starts the large, laser cut steel theme...

Tomorrow is an even shorter run to El Questro with the iconic Pentecost river crossing
