Day 21: El Questro

YThere is something about starting the day with a dip in your own stretch of creek. A good way to wake up, but still no substitute for coffee. Luckily the shop in the township does good coffee.

2 cups and a chat with other campers later, we headed for the first stop of the day at El Questro Gorge. Whereas most walks claim levels of difficulty they don't deliver, this one was different. A beautiful walk through a narrowing gorge, scrambling over large boulders, wading up the creek. Sensational. We didn't make the end gorge (only got 3/4 of the way there) but enjoyed every bit.

The El Questro walk starts through grasses until you get into the gorge

Beautful pools dotted the gorge. You cross over them regularly and sometimes you had to walk through them

Halfway Pool. The boulder at the end is what you have to climb over to reach the end of the gorge, through waist deep water, hence...
Jen trying to keep her bag, camera and shoes out of the water, as well as working out how to get over the boulder!

A quick lunch at the township cafe and off for a bit of 4wd alongside the Pentecost river. After a long, dry and lumpy crossing of the Pentecost again, the first stop was Brancos Lookout. If Saddleback was good, this was better and would be amazing at sunset. The we dropped down the hill to Explosion Gorge.

Large Boab at the start of the large river crossing

View from Branco lookout over the Pentecost. Apparently there is a 4.5m Salty and his missus down there. Swimming not advised...

Back to camp for another dip in "our" creek and off for a few beers then dinner at the township. My rib-eye was beautifully done, and a chocolate and Cointreau ganache, with hazlenut cream and salted caramel sauce finished it off. Jen was given no choice but to get her own dessert. There would be no sharing of this one!
